Po-i-Kalyan (Kalyan Minaret)
The 47 m minaret and Kalyan Mosque anchor the old city — climb when open for views over the rooftops. The square is free to photograph at any hour.
Ark Fortress
Emirs’ citadel with museums, throne room, and jail — allow half a day if you read every exhibit. The ramparts face Registan Square below.
Lyabi-Hauz
Shaded pool surrounded by mulberry trees and chaikhanas — the classic Bukhara evening: tea, bread, and people-watching. Madrasahs around the pool are ticketed separately.
Samanid Mausoleum
10th-century brick masterpiece — among the oldest surviving Islamic monuments in Central Asia. Quiet Samani Park setting, often missed by rushed groups.
Trading domes
Taki-Sarrafon (money-changers), Taki-Telpak Furushon (caps), and Taki-Zargaron (jewellers) — still functioning bazaar architecture under brick vaults.
Chor Minor
Four-minaret gatehouse hidden in a residential lane — small but photogenic; good stop between the Ark and Lyabi-Hauz.
2-day Bukhara itinerary
- Day 1 — Old city core Po-i-Kalyan (morning) → trading domes → Ark Fortress (afternoon) → sunset at Bolo Hauz mosque opposite the Ark. Dinner at Lyabi-Hauz chaikhana.

Best season
